This past month, Chesterton Academy students enjoyed many special events, including Holy-Ween, two choir performances, and the end of a fun girls volleyball season.
Holy-Ween 2023
On All Saints Day (November 1), our high schoolers hosted their annual Holy-Ween celebration for the PreK through 8th grade students at Highlands Latin School.
Chesterton students built tunnels and caves throughout the school, through which the younger kids, dressed as their favorite saints, moved from classroom to classroom, stopping in each one as our Chesterton Academy Houses performed skits about various saints.
The children's journey finally ended with a party in “heaven,” a special room filled with heavenly treats and delights.
Fall Choir Cantata
Every student at Chesterton sings in the choir, which means when our school doubled in size this year, the choir doubled, too!
Our students raised their voices in our Fall Cantata, singing classic devotional and liturgical hymns, and also debuting our revised Alma Mater, composed by our choir director, Mr. Cristian Caiola.
Good News Conference + Bishop Barron
A select group of students was invited to sing during two liturgies at the Good News Conference, a Catholic event in Orlando which drew over 1,000 attendees.
Our students sang several pieces but their beautiful performance of Thomas Aquinas' Adoro te Devote after communion (see video below), stirred the most hearts.
Bishop Robert Barron, who celebrated the first Mass, met with our students afterward and expressed great esteem for our school.
Fr. Mike Schmitz, popular host of the "Bible in a Year" podcast, celebrated the second liturgy.
It was a joy and privilege to unite the beauty of our students' voices to the sacred liturgy.
Girls Volleyball Season
This year, we introduced our first girls sport—volleyball! Thanks to the support of our benefactors, we were able to purchase a net, balls, and other equipment.
The girls worked hard all year with their coach, Ms. Currier, and her two assistants, Ms. Maddie and Mr. Mark. Most of the girls had never played volleyball before, but by the end of the season, they were serving, setting, and spiking likes pros!
The girls played three games against Winter Park Volleyball Club, Tainas Volleyball Club, and a final intramural game amongst themselves.
The whole school is proud of our girls team and looks forward to next season!
